Consisting of three separate sites important to the 39th President of the United States, the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is built in the town where the president was born and lives today. Start with a visit to Plains High School, which has classrooms decorated in the fashion they would have been during Carter's early school years as well as exhibits that speak to the lives of both Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter while they lived in Plains before and after the president's term. Afterwards, head to the Plains Train Depot that acted as headquarters during Carter's presidential campaign or Carter's boyhood farm. Both feature both historic sites and modern exhibits that help illuminate the achievements of Carter. All three sites are in the town of Plains, which sits 10 miles west of Americus in western Georgia.
All sites open daily. Plains High School Visitor Center and Museum: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 1976 Presidential Campaign Headquarters/Train Depot Museum: 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Free.
